had tried an IUD, but I had a lot of breakthrough bleeding and unusual periods. I was currently taking birth control pills and I didn’t want to take them for another 10 years. I knew my family was complete and I wanted something permanent, but I wasn’t a good candidate for a tubal ligation. My doctor suggested the Essure procedure.
The day of the procedure, I was given a local to numb the area. I felt only slight pressure as the devices were being inserted. The procedure only took a half hour and it was cool to watch on the video screen. Afterwards, I drove myself back to work and was exercising again by the next day.
At the 3 month follow-up, I had the HSG. It was reassuring to see the coils in place and know that I could rely on Essure permanently. It’s great to not have to think about taking the pill or putting unnecessary hormones into my body.
